AI GeneratedMore than one million Georgians have already cast their ballots in the early voting period, with the vast majority voting in person. With high stakes including a U.S. Senate seat and several state-level offices, election officials are prioritizing security to ensure a safe process as both major political parties ramp up campaign rallies to drive turnout.
You decide 2026. The election is just two weeks away
and more than one million Georgians have
already cast their ballots.
Now, the vast majority cast their votes in person at early voting
locations. And goodness, Mark Teichner is live
at a DeKalb County polling center with more on
the turnout and keeping the process secure.
Hey, Mark, good morning. Hey, good morning, guys. You
know, a small percentage of them
were cast through absentee ballots. But as you mentioned,
most of these votes have been brought
in through people showing up at early voting locations like
we're standing at right now.
Early voting got off to a record start here in Georgia and hasn't
slowed since. Monday, the state cracked the one million vote barrier,
almost all of them 980,000
plus coming from in-person early voting locations.
The other more than 46,000 were absentee ballots.
In total, 13.6% of Georgia's 7.5 million
registered voters have already cast a ballot.
The voter interest isn't a surprise
to outgoing Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
You're voting for a new governor,
attorney general, lieutenant governor,
secretary, like up and down the ballot,
plus you have a U.S. Senate seat,
so there's an awful lot on the table.
While both parties argue over who the wave of early voting favors,
Election officials say they're focused solely
on making sure casting a ballot is both safe and secure.
Prepare, prepare, prepare. You always have to make sure that you're,
you know, you just can't, you know, sit back.
We're very strong on, we have robust security in place,
but we know there's a lot of bad actors out there.
With so much at stake, both parties are working hard
to drive their voters to the polls.
President Trump held a rally in Dalton last week
and returns to Macon on Saturday.
Former President Obama comes to Atlanta for a rally next week.
We just see the voters are engaged in the process.
Just a reminder, you can early vote all this week and next week.
And in many counties, like here in DeKalb County,
you can also vote on the weekend that's coming up.
You do want to check before you head out
to make sure you know your advanced early voting locations
and the hours that they will be open for your individual community.
Reporting live from DeKalb, I'm Mark Teichner for Good Day Atlanta.
